THOMAS REHNERT
lives and works in Berlin. He was deeply influenced by the European free jazz of the 1970s, and in West Berlin in the 1980s he played percussion in various punk bands. In the world of punk and experimental music of these years, he began to occupy himself with electro-acoustic music, machine music and automata. From then on, his interests shifted more and more towards new and improvised music. He built his own percussion sets and on these developed his own playing techniques and improvisation concepts. He expands his acoustic percussion sounds by means of live electronics.
For several years, Thomas Rehnert has been building autopoietic sound machines from analogue modular systems. Thus the studio has become a place of production. As a percussionist, he performs in ensembles both large and small, and is active in various cross-media projects (theatre / film / radio / visual arts). He works as a composer, percussionist, programmer and sound designer in the field of new music, in collaboration with sound artists, ensembles, soloists, composers and organizers.
